đ SHOCKING! OutDaughtered Star Adam Secretly Battles a Terrifying Illness â His Family Had No Idea
Adam Busby has been battling postpartum depression since he became a father to the only all-female set of quintuplets in the country â and now, heâs letting his wife Danielle in on his struggles.
In an exclusive sneak peek at Tuesdayâs episode of TLCâs OutDaughtered, the couple, who in addition to the quints are parents to 6-year-old daughter Blayke, broach the topic of Adamâs emotional health as he begins seeking help.
âYou seem like youâve been a little better,â says Danielle. âIâm trying to give you space and not nag you or make it harder, but how did it go?â
Eventually, Adam admits heâs been âputting this off long enoughâ â itâs time to âlet Danielle in so she can understand whatâs going on with me.â
He brings up the topic of postpartum depression, noting that itâs something âone in 10â fathers struggle with.
âI always thought postpartum depression was for the women, because your body goes through so much hormonal change after youâve had a baby,â Danielle responds. âI didnât go through it, so I donât understand it. I know other moms and friends that have gone through it, but I never even knew that was a thing that men can have.â
âNever in a million years would I ever have thought thatâs something he would go through,â she admits later. âI hate to hear that thatâs what heâs suffering with. Iâm pretty confused about it.â

Adam says looking up the symptoms was âa shockâ to him because he related to so many of them.
âI was surprised that so many other men go through this too,â he said. âItâs a hard thing to talk about, because youâre scared that nobody is going to understand.â
âThe way that I felt came on gradually,â he adds. âIt got worse and worse and worse the more that I tried to hide it.â
âThatâs what makes me sad â hearing you say that youâve felt like this since we had the quints and theyâre about to turn 2,â says Danielle. âI just wish you would have been more open and said something to me instead of hiding it. You canât shut me out.â
Adam explains that he didnât want to burden her: âI see everything that you go through on a daily basis, the stress that youâre put through on a daily basis,â he says. âAnd for me to come home at the end of the day and throw that on you after everything youâve been through?â
âThen letâs live miserably!â she responds. âIt doesnât matter, Adam. Thatâs not for you to think about. I mean, I want to help you â I donât want you to be like this and suffer.â
Later, Danielle admits that she herself struggled after giving birth to the quintuplets.
âThere were a lot of days that I felt lost and stressed, and there were days I told Adam: âI need you here. I need you with me. You donât have to say anything, but you just need to be here,â â she recalled, tearing up. âBut itâs sad because I donât remember him really getting the chance to feel broken like that.â

Last month, the father of six opened up about his decision to share his struggles on the TLC reality show in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.
âWe knew that signing up to have our family documented for OutDaughtered that every aspect of our lives was going to be showcased on television. Because of this, we wanted to make sure that we were as real as possible,â he said. âThis meant not only showing the fun and exciting times of being a parent, but also the hard times, the stressful times and the messy times.â
âIâd be doing an extreme disservice to our fans if I hid this from the public and wasnât honest with them,â he added. âI know Iâm not alone and I want others to know they arenât either. I want men to feel comfortable opening up about their feelings and expressing the struggles theyâre going through. I want to help end the stigma surrounding mental health. The worst thing that you can do is stay silent and try fix things on your own.â
