There is still a little over a month left until the Season 50 finale of the long-running reality series Survivor. Unfortunately, tragedy has just struck and impacted the whole show. So, what happened, and can the series recover? Keep reading for more details.

A Horrifying Moment Nearly Ends Survivor

For twenty-six years, fans have flocked to their televisions every week to see who can outwit, outlast, and outplay. Survivor has been a staple of doing others dirty, forming alliances, and, in some cases, finding true love. It has done so well that it is now on Season 50, which is an incredible feat for any reality series, especially in 2026. This current season is still going strong, every Wednesday on CBS. The finale will air on May 20th and will boast the first live finale since Season 39 in 2019. So, it has been a long time coming. Unfortunately, ahead of all of this, tragedy has struck.

Now, viewers know that the show is filmed in advance; that is no secret. Unfortunately, there are things that can and will happen that no one can predict. As of now, preparation for Season 51 is already underway in Fiji. The new season is set to get going on Wednesday, April 15th, but on April 4th, a cruise ship struck a reef close to Monuriki Island. This is in Fiji and right near the filming location for Season 51. The ship, Fiji Princess, was carrying 30 passengers and 31 crew members, but thankfully, everyone aboard is safe. However, the vessel has officially been retired:

“The ship, which has been part of the Blue Lagoon Cruises fleet for more than 22 years, dragged whilst at anchor during a severe weather event and as a result grounded on a nearby reef. All guests and crew safely disembarked.”

As of now, it is estimated that the Fiji Princess will be docked for up to three months before it can be removed. Survivor has been filming in Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands for a decade now, so it would be a shame to have to leave. Fortunately, they have all been cleared, and filming will go on.

A New Season Ahead

The new season of Survivor is expected to film from April 15th through July 3rd. Of course, the one night off will be May 20th for the live finale, where anything can and will happen. Fans have loved seeing old and new friends, but there has been some sneaky gameplay, as per usual. It will be interesting to see who will win and what the new season has in store.

Are you shocked at what happened with the Fiji Princess and that everyone got out alive? Let us know and watch Survivor 50 Wednesdays on CBS.
